Our Workshops - Introduction.

We offer 3 core workshops; the first is based upon the 5x4 Field Camera, the second on the 10x8 Field Camera.  These first 2 Workshops are called our Large Format Workshops and are concerned with making images onto sheet film. The third is the Your Camera Workshop and is based upon whatever camera that you bring with you to the Workshop, be it film or digital.  Simply click on the relevant button at the bottom of the page for more details.

The workshops are run on a 1:1 basis, or for two people booking together. After agreeing a date and confirming the booking we ask you to provide some background information that includes previous photographic experience, particular subject interests and what your primary goal in attending the workshop is. In this way we tailor the workshop to you whether you are a  complete novice wanting to know how to get the best from your camera, an intermediate or keen enthusiast/camera club practitioner, or an experienced small/medium format user perhaps thinking about stepping up to large format.

These are NOT workshops where you are simply part of a crowd knocking elbows trying to get the best tripod position whilst a tutor tells you what you either already know,  or what you really need explaining a second time.  It is a workshop that is as unique as you are (so no two workshops will be the same),  where all of our time is spent moving your photography forward.

At the start of your workshop you are given ring-bound notes detailing the practical ideas covered in the classroom. These are unique to you, and not only save you having to make your own notes but are also a useful tool for future reference.

We are based in Arundel West Sussex, often described as the 'jewel' in the South Downs. This is a fantastic base from which to explore a variety of locations; stunning views from the tops of the downs, the coast-line down at Clymping, the many picturesque villages of the Weald, Roman Villas, dozens of Saxon chapels, the swiftly flowing river Arun and of course the town of Arundel itself with its' magnificent castle and cathedral. I have been living and practising photography in Arundel for the past 35 years and have a large database of Geo-tagged locations to share with you as we take our cameras out into the field.

As Arundel is such a great place to visit and spend time, some participants have used our workshop not only as a way to experience a mindful way of artistic expression, but also the anchor around which they have planned an extended stay in Arundel and the surrounding area. There are so many ways to enjoy oneself that all members of the family will leave our beautiful town with happy memories and a story to tell.
